Harry Kane set to sign new Bayern contract, ending Barcelona transfer speculation

Harry Kane has been an extraordinary success at Bayern Munich since he signed for the Bundesliga giants three seasons ago.

The England captain moved from Tottenham Hotspur to Bavaria in 2023 and has shaken off the idea that trophies might elude him for the entirety of his career despite being one of the world’s most dangerous strikers.

Kane has been the top scorer in each of his three seasons in Germany, firing Bayern back to the title in 2024-25 and 2025-26.

Far from soaking up a last big contract on the continent and gradually losing his edge, Kane has attracted the attention of another of Europe’s very biggest clubs with his phenomenal goalscoring record in the Bundesliga.

At 32, the Londoner has been the subject of reported interest from Barcelona. The Spanish champions have made a success of signing veteran strikers who’ve kept on banging in the goals far beyond Kane’s age.

The most noteworthy example is Robert Lewandowski, signed from Bayern in 2014, who is leaving Barcelona at the end of his contract at the age of 37 to sign with Chicago Fire in MLS. That’s an impressive blueprint but fresh reports indicate that the Allianz Arena is to remain Kane’s home for some time yet.

Kane’s contract expires next summer but he’s staying put, according to The Athletic: “The former Tottenham Hotspur striker is keen to remain in Germany despite Barcelona’s enquiry, and the Catalan club have been informed that he is happy in Munich.

“Kane had the option to activate a release clause in his contract this summer, though he would have had to inform Bayern of the decision in January, which he opted against.

“Bayern’s board member for sport, Max Eberl, said in January that they were in discussions with Kane over a new deal.”

Kane, who has scored three times in the United States this month to become England’s record goalscorer in World Cup matches. He captained Thomas Tuchel’s Three Lions to victories against Croatia and Panama in a modest group stage campaign, ensuring that they finished top of Group L.

The 32-year-old has scored at a tremendous rate in Germany. He has scored 98 goals in just 94 Bundesliga matches and 146 in all competitions.

Kane is also closing in on 100 international goals. He has scored 82 times in 117 games in his 11-year England career and would become the first English footballer to reach a century.

He’s in the chase for a second World Cup Golden Boot but already three goals behind Lionel Messi’s six, the same number Kane scored in total when he collected the award when England reached the semi-finals of World Cup 2018.

England’s next opponents will be DR Congo at Atlanta Stadium in Georgia on Wednesday.
