England striker Harry Kane has revealed his delight at becoming just the second men’s player in history to reach 50 goals for the Three Lions, whilst also targeting the all-time goalscoring record.
The Tottenham forward racked-up his half-century on Tuesday evening by finding the net from the spot in England’s 1-1 draw with Germany in Munich. He sent Manuel Neuer the wrong way having also won the penalty following a foul by Borussia Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck.
The referee did not initially give the spot-kick but the VAR recommended a second-viewing at the monitor, with the decision then eventually being given. Kane of course stayed cool to score and rack-up his 50th international goal.
He is now only the second men’s player in history to reach the landmark, whilst he is only three strikes behind record holder Wayne Rooney. Speaking after the game, Kane expressed his thrill at having racked up his half-century.
He said: “A really nice feeling, you know. I had a couple of early chances in the game. Obviously the first one over the bar and then Neuer made a good save for the second.
“I thought maybe it was one of those days but we kept going and probably played our best football in the last half-hour of the game. Physically, we were really strong and good to get the goal and just a shame that we couldn’t get the goal at the end.

“I love scoring goals, I’ve always loved scoring goals especially for my country. Whenever I can help the team, that’s the most important thing. Good to bounce back with a result tonight, not an easy place to come and now we’ve got two games at home to try and get two wins.”
Kane’s goal secured what was an impressive point in Munich despite Gareth Southgate’s men having been under the cosh for the majority of the tie. It also sees them secure their first point of the newest edition of the UEFA Nations League, with a clash against European champions Italy at Wembley Stadium to come.
Kane has underpinned the importance of heading into the game with the Azzurri and particularly the upcoming World Cup with positive momentum despite the setback against Hungary last time out.
He continued: “I think it’s really important to show the mentality. Even going 1-0 behind today, it showed good character from us to then get back into the game and get a result.
“We’re playing against a very good Germany side. It shows where we are that we’ve still got improvement but we’re working hard and the World Cup is going to be here before we know it so we’ve got to keep doing well.
