Harry Kane makes Kieran Trippier admission to hand Tottenham boost ahead of Arsenal clash

Harry Kane has made a bold claim ahead of Arsenal's match against Newcastle on Monday night, as the top four race continues. Tottenham currently occupy the fourth spot and sit two points ahead of Arsenal, after their 1-0 victory over Burnley on Sunday.

Spurs had eight shots on target and dominated the game, in terms of possession, but it was a controversial penalty that broke the deadlock. The England captain slotted the ball past Nick Pope and had a total of six shots in the clash, at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

In his post match press conference, Antonio Conte praised his side for what turned out to be a difficult game. "It is not simple, it's not easy to play against us, to face Burnley today wasn’t easy," he admitted.

"They tested our nerves because for us it was vital to get three points and to have an opportunity to take a place in the Champions League and stay until the end for this big achievement." The penalty which separated the two sides on Sunday caused controversy, which Kane commented on after the game.

"It’s a clear penalty. If you look at the penalties that’s been given this season I think for sure, it was the right decision. Obviously they feel a little bit hard done by, but we’ve had decisions go our way and not go our way this season," he admitted.

The England captain went on to praise his side for securing the three points, in a game which turned out to be a "tough battle". "We knew they’d make it difficult. Getting a goal just before half-time was vital for us," Kane said.

"Full credit to the boys, the manager and the staff. It’s never easy coming in mid-season and trying to turn things around.

"We’ve given ourselves a chance [of a top-four finish]. We just need to keep working hard," he added.

Tottenham have just one game to go, which is an away fixture against Norwich and it will be another must win game, to keep their top four hopes alive and finish the season on a high. "We can’t take it for granted," the 28-year-old admitted.

"Norwich will be playing their last home game in the Premier League this season, but we have a full week of preparation. We feel like if we play to our abilities we should win the game."

Spurs may visit Carrow Road in fourth place, if Newcastle can steal some points from Arsenal on Monday night. The Magpies have recently lost to both Liverpool and Man City, sitting 14th in the league.

However the tie will be Newcastle's final home game of the season and with a full St James' Park, Mikel Arteta's side will need to prepare for another intimidating atmosphere. Kane admitted that all Tottenham can do is "wait and see what Arsenal do".

The pressure is on the Gunners to produce what is needed from them in the top four race. After playing the Magpies, Arsenal's final game welcomes Everton to the Emirates Stadium.

This could see Arsenal facing two former Spurs players in Kieran Trippier and Dele Alli, in their final fixtures. All Tottenham fans will be hoping both players can put a spanner in the works in the battle for a spot in the top four, if they are given game time.

Trippier already said, "I want to help Tottenham obviously," ahead of the tie and after the Burnley match, Kane explained what he would be doing before the game. "I’ll give Kieran Trippier a text," he admitted.

"It’ll be a tough game for Arsenal, but we’ve taken care of what we needed to do." Trippier is only just making his return from his metatarsal fracture, which has kept him out for a couple of months.

Kane has played with the England international for club and country and will be hoping the defender can make the required impact, if he is given the chance to feature against Arsenal.
