Harry Kane drops Tottenham future hint as he discusses Daniel Levy talks to improve club

Harry Kane has spoken about having conversations with Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy in order to improve the club for the future.

Spurs have dropped off the pace this season and out of the top four race and are now on their third head coach of the campaign with Ryan Mason taking charge for the remaining fixtures. Kane scored the winning goal on Saturday against Crystal Palace and in doing so he overtook Wayne Rooney as the Premier League's second-highest ever goalscorer on 209 goals. Kane reached it in just 317 appearances, compared to Rooney's 491 to reach 208 goals.

Kane, who is already Tottenham and England's all-time goalscorer, is approaching the final 12 months of his contract at the north London club with speculation surrounding his future.

In a new interview with Sky Sports, which took place on Tuesday, the striker did appear to be thinking of the future at Spurs and what he can do to improve it by speaking to Levy.

"I think on the pitch you know I always give 100%. I always give my all for the team and for the club. I think off the pitch to have those conversations with the chairman and the staff here and try to give my opinion on some of the things that I think can help us just be more consistent and more successful in the culture that we try to set," he said.

"I feel like from a culture point of view we've been too up and down over the last few years so in any great team, any winning team, you know they have a way of doing things and whoever comes in, or is added to that, they kind of fit in straight away and know the standards.

"Ours have been a little bit loose I feel like, and we need to find a way to create that environment that drives success."

He added: "It's been a difficult season. Probably the last couple of years, the last two or three, we haven't been where we want to be as a club, so ultimately, there's some internal stuff we need to talk about.

"We need to discuss some of the standards around the team and the training ground, which we need to get back to. We had [standards] those in place when Mauricio Pochettino was here, so internally we need to do that.

"The chairman [Daniel Levy] will make a decision on what he thinks is best for the club, in terms of the coach and who he wants to bring in, the players to go and who he wants to bring in.

"I always think you're never too far away from being competitive with the right people, but also, you're never too far away from dropping down to 10th or 11th place in the Premier League because that is the standard.

"It's an important moment for the club, to feel a connection again with the fans, who I know have been frustrated with these moments. We need to try to build that relationship back up and try to push all in the same direction."

On Saturday Kane was asked, following his match-winning display against Palace, about who will take on the manager's job at Tottenham next.

“That’s down to the club. If I end up speaking with the chairman towards the end of the season, then I’m sure he’ll fill me in on what he’s thinking," said the 29-year-old. “But ultimately we’ve got three more games, we don’t want to look too far ahead and get too carried away.

“The club will make the best decision for everyone, for the players, the fans, for the club in general, so we’ll just have to wait and see what that is."

Kane was certainly pushing the claims of Mason, his friend and former team-mate, for the role.

"I think we’re all behind him. We know the club is in a situation where I spoke about getting some of the values back. I feel like Ryan brings all those attributes," explained the England captain. “He’s been here through the academy, he knows what it’s like as a fan, he knows what it’s like to play here. With that attitude and that desire, he brings a great enthusiasm to the coaching role here.

"Ultimately it will be down to the chairman and the club what they decide. But for these three games, we’re fully behind him to try to improve and to try to win and see what happens."
