Harry Kane has hinted there needs to be changes at Tottenham this summer - and admitted Spurs have lost some of their "values" since the departure of Mauricio Pochettino.
Spurs currently sit fifth in the Premier League table ahead of Sunday's trip to Liverpool as they go in search of their first win in four top-flight matches. Ryan Mason, who took over from Cristian Stellini last week, led Tottenham to a 2-2 draw against Manchester United on Thursday as they kept their European hopes alive.
However, after finishing last season so strong, many Spurs fans were expecting them to challenge higher up the table, rather than for a top-four finish. Antonio Conte did an excellent job to spearhead Tottenham to the Champions League, but the Italian failed to build on what he started.
Conte was sacked last month after a torrid run of results that saw them bow out of Europe's top club competition and fall further behind in the race for the top-four. Stellini was appointed as interim boss until the end of the season, but he was unable to pick up the pieces, winning one of his four matches in charge.
Speaking ahead of the trip to Anfield, Kane told Sky Sports: "When you've been here this long, I've been here since I was 11 years old, you understand what the fans are like, you understand what the club's like. You've been through good moments with the club, I've been through not so good moments.
"Values are... everyone wants to win and everyone wants to lift trophies and that's ultimately our aim every year. But we're in a different situation to some of the clubs around us and we have to accept that but still find a way to improve and get better.
"We probably haven't been doing that in recent years so ultimately it's about getting back to competing right at the very top and our squad has got enough talent to do that.
"Ultimately, there's some things that may need to change I think everyone is doing everything they can to try and achieve that. But when you look at the competition in the Premier League now, the fine line between being one of the top clubs and 10th or 11th is very slim and you have to make sure you're on it in every department."
Spurs haven't competed for a title since Pochettino's time in charge. The Argentine guided Spurs to a third place finish in the 2015/16 campaign, before going one better the following season.
During Pochettino's reign, Tottenham also reached the Champions League final, beating the likes of Manchester City and Ajax on route to the final in Madrid. Although Spurs eventually lost that game 2-0 to Liverpool, it capped off another impressive campaign under Pochettino's stewardship.
Following Pochettino's departure in November 2019, Spurs haven't been at the same level, both in terms of their attacking style of football, and in results. Jose Mourinho came in and guided Tottenham to a Carabao Cup final, but their Premier League results failed to deceive as they failed to qualify for the Champions League.
Nuno Espirito Santo was the next permanent boss to come in ahead of the 2021/22 season, however, he struggled and was sacked just three months into the campaign. Then came Conte, who did well to turn their season around and qualify for the top-four - but Kane believes Spurs have missed Pochettino's style.
He added: "Yeah I think whenever you have a good moment as a team, I think we had three or four really good years when we were competing at the very top and that was without spending loads of money.
"We had a really good mixture of young and experienced players. It's impossible in football to click your fingers and go back to the good times and say 'let's go back to what it was', because every season and every situation is different. But I feel like there were some values at that time and some culture that really made us achieve the things we did.
"So maybe we've lost parts of that over the last few years and it's about looking back at that and seeing the good things we can take from that and trying to implement that in the future."
