Harry Brockbank's first words after leaving Bolton Wanderers as reasons for departure outlined

Harry Brockbank has said the chance for a fresh challenge in football potentially in America and a new lifestyle are reasons behind his exit from Bolton Wanderers.

The 23-year-old has departed the club and is planning to continue his football career Stateside.

It has meant he has been released from his Wanderers contract, the latest of which he signed last year and was poised to run until the summer of 2023.

He has found regular game time hard to come by this season having made only seven appearances in all competitions after falling down the pecking order in the back four.

In the right-back department, Wanderers have Gethin Jones and Marlon Fossey, who has arrived this transfer window on loan from Fulham.

And in the heart of defence, Ian Evatt can call upon Ricardo Almeida Santos, Will Aimson, George Johnston and Alex Baptiste.

Brockbank, who joined the Whites as a seven-year-old, made his first-team debut in the Championship in April, 2019 following a loan spell in the National League with Salford City.

Brockbank then made eight appearances the following season, including one as captain when Wanderers fielded the youngest side in their history in a 0-0 draw with Coventry City in August, 2019 while the club was in administration.

The full-back played 18 times in League Two last season to help Ian Evatt’s men win promotion and has featured seven times this term, with his final appearance in a Wanderers’ shirt coming as a substitute at Rotherham on New Year’s Day.

Brockbank has explained the reasons behind his departure from Wanderers and believes he has achieved everything he set out to do at Bolton.

But he has said that the opportunity he is set to take is one which excites him and that he would be 'stupid' to turn it down.

“I’ve achieved everything I set out to do as a young lad. You can’t ask for much than to captain your hometown team and get a promotion before the age of 23,” said Brockbank.

“There have obviously been a lot of ups and downs along the way but plenty more ups than downs and now I’m ready for a new chapter, a new start and a lifestyle change.

“I’ll certainly be back to watch the boys and I will always be around but it’s time for a new challenge and with the opportunity that’s hopefully coming up it’s something that really excited me and I’d be stupid to turn it down.”
