Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's reported eviction from Frogmore Cottage feels like a "cruel punishment", according to a friend of the couple.
King Charles is claimed to have made the decision to remove the Sussexes from the home that was gifted to them by the late Queen Elizabeth II - and has now offered it to Prince Andrew.
It appears Harry's controversial autobiography Spare was the final straw for Charles, who had his private conversations with his son publicised and saw his wife, Queen Consort Camilla, get branded a 'wicked stepmother'.
It's being reported that the couple are arranging the belongings they still have at Frogmore to be sent to their home to California.
And one of Harry and Meghan's pals now says that the Royal Family intend to cut the Sussexes out of their lives forever.
"It all feels very final and like a cruel punishment," a friend of the couple told journalist Omid Scobie. "It's like [the family] want to cut them out of the picture for good."
Without Frogmore Cottage, the couple will no longer have a base in the UK in addition to losing their security.
The late Queen gifted Frogmore Cottage to the Sussexes following their wedding back in 2018, so it will come as a huge blow to lose it.
Scobie, one of the authors behind the biography of Harry and Meghan, Finding Freedom, says the couple have been left "stunned" - while two other royals have also been left "appalled.
He explained: "It’s news, sources tell me, that has left Harry and Meghan stunned, and at least two members of the Royal Family 'appalled'."
He also adds that a source says Harry and Meghan have been given until the summer, after the Coronation, to remove their belongings after initially being told they would just be given two weeks.
Frogmore Cottage has been the centre of a lot of controversy over the years, with the renovation costs totalling a whopping £2.4million.
It was converted into one home in 2019, having previously been five separate properties for staff working on the Windsor Estate.
The property is thought to have five bedrooms, a kitchen, a sitting room and a nursery first designed for Archie - but they only lived there for several months.
Harry and Meghan kept up a lease on the property after moving to California and stayed there last year when they returned to the UK for the late Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
