The highly anticipated six-part documentary series on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be released in two installments on December 8 and 15, Netflix has announced.
Harry & Meghan will premiere first with Volume I (episodes 1-3) on Thursday and Volume II (episodes 4-6) next week.
The announcement on Monday also came with the release of a new and explosive trailer for the series behind the scenes of the lives of Prince Harry and his wife Meghan.
“It’s really hard to look back on it now and go, ‘What on earth happened?’” Harry reflects in the trailer.
The royal claimed there is “a hierarchy of the family” and there is “leaking but there’s also planting of stories”.
“It’s a dirty game,” he added.
The Duke said he was “terrified” and he didn’t “want history to repeat itself”, suggesting a comparison between the media treatment of his mother, Princess Diana, and his wife.
In the trailer his wife Meghan said: “I realised they’re never going to protect you.”
Footage shows the pair being photographed while attending public royal duties before they stepped down as senior royals in 2020. In one clip a fan screams “Meghan, we love you” amongst a crowd of people.
Snippets of what appears to be an interview of the Duke and Duchess in their own home are played. In audio from media outlets, the Duchess is described as “becoming a royal rock star”.
The trailer ends with Harry claiming: “No one knows the full truth. We know the full truth.”
Netflix UK and Ireland released the trailer on Twitter at midday, describing the two December release dates for the documentary series as “a Netflix global event”.
The series, directed by Liz Garbus, will explore the couple’s relationship timeline and the challenges that lead them to step down from royal duties.
It includes interviews with family and friends who’ve never spoken publicly about the couple’s relationship before, as well as historians and journalists.
The new trailer comes just hours after it was announced that the Duke and Duchess are to take over the running of their Archewell company after a senior aide stepped down.
A spokesperson for Harry and Meghan said they will now take “full lead” of their Archewell media and charitable foundation and Mandana Dayani’s role will not be replaced.
Last week, the first trailer for the couple’s highly anticipated Netflix series dropped and featured never before seen private photographs of the couple.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex signed a massive multi-year deal with the streaming giant in 2020, allowing them to produce documentaries, docuseries, feature films, scripted shows, and children’s titles.
A spokesman for Netflix said: “In an unprecedented and in-depth documentary series, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex share the other side of their high-profile love story.”
