A coalition of politicians, senior military officials and respected historians have urged Prince Harry and wife Meghan Markle to not attend King Charles III's coronation considering the ongoing fallout from their Netflix documentary series, OK! reports. Harry & Meghan launched last week, with their controversial claims throwing a reconciliation between the couple and the Royal Family into doubt.
Following the documentary series' release, several key figures, including a former Cabinet minister, have said the couple should "categorically not be" at next year's Coronation on 6 May. A recent poll, conducted by the Mail on Sunday, found that almost half of of Brits concur.
Former Conservative Party leader Iain Duncan Smith, said: “If they dislike the Royal Family so much why would they attend the Coronation?” Fellow former cabinet minister David Mellor agreed, saying: “They make money out of selling their family down the river. I think it should be made clear that the British people do not want them there.,” before adding that the public would be "perfectly entitled to boo" the pair.
There are also fears that the couple's attendance could raise a security risk, with one security advisor suggesting that by peddling a "false narrative" the couple could give rise to people to attack them. Dai Davies, former head of royal protection expressed his concern over "what poison would come out next".
