Harry and Meghan 'ironically NEED to keep capitalising on the royal family', says expert

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle "need to capitalise on their royal connections" to continue securing lucrative brand deals, according to a PR expert.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been nominated for a Hollywood Critics Award for their explosive Netflix documentary in which they made a series of bombshell claims about their time in the Royal Family.

In the show, Harry took aim at both his father King Charles and brother Prince William, who he claimed left him terrified after he screamed and shouted at him.

PR expert Kieran Elsby has said it's "ironic" that Harry and Meghan have been nominated for an award based on their docuseries as they seem to be trying to distance themselves from the royal drama.

"It is ironic that Harry and Meghan seem to be trying to move away from their self-inflicted Royal Family drama, yet the thing they've been nominated for is linked to the royals," he told us.

"Their Netflix show chronicles their decision to step back from royal duties and their subsequent life in the United States. The show has been shortlisted due to its apparent 'honesty' and the way it gives viewers a glimpse into the couple's personal lives."

Kieran director of Media PR Global, said Harry and Meghan's new nomination "is a sign" that they need to "capitalise on their royal connections".

He added: "After all, they are still using their royal titles and their association with the royal family to promote their projects."

Kieran suggested the nomination is "essential" for Harry and Meghan to be able to "remain relevant" and continue to secure brand deals such as their $112million (£88,000) Netflix deal.

"The nomination is a way for Harry and Meghan to keep their names in the headlines and maintain their relevance whilst the try to find their next cheque. It is also a way for them to continue to profit from their royal connections," he added.

Kieran believes the nomination proves just how big an appetite the American audience has for Harry and Meghan.

"The fact that the show has been nominated for an award despite its negative portrayal of the royal family suggests that the US is still willing to give Harry and Meghan a platform."

He said their Hollywood Critics Award nomination may not be the last and suggested the couple could have some success at this year's Emmy Awards.

Kieran added: "Harry and Meghan also have a lot of name recognition and therefore more likely to be nominated for awards. After all everyone is trying to sell. Selling awards, selling sponsors, selling tickets, and selling viewing rights.

"Money is the only language in Hollywood."
