Harry and Meghan 'felt hard done by' before £100 million Netflix deal, says Susanna Reid

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle "felt like they were hard done by" before creating explosive Netflix documentary, claims Susanna Reid.

The Good Morning Britain host appeared on Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg this morning in a discussion about Harry and Meghan reportedly wanting the Royal Family to apologise to them in a 'sit down meeting'.

"I think it's just ever so sad and I think at the heart of it is this terrible rift between brothers, between a son and his father," Susanna said.

"I watched the documentary, I just feel like your stance on it depends on what you think their motivation is," she continued.

"There are people who think their motivation is to discredit and dismantle the royal family and therefore they get a lot of reaction from people who think that's appalling, there are some people who think that their motivation is to use their royal titles to get an enormous amount of money and of course they got $100 million, apparently, for this Netflix series so there are people who think that's terribly distasteful.

"I think their motivation is that they felt like they just had too much scrutiny, publicity, intrusion, invasion of privacy and I know people cough and splutter and say, 'Well they're hardly being private now'.

"I feel like their motivation is they felt like they were hard done by, they felt like she suffered, we know she had these terrible thoughts and enormous sympathy for that, you also know that Harry saw his mother die in the wake of terrible press intrusion and paparazzi so I understand that they feel like they were intruded upon and their side of the story was never told."

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby - who married Harry and Meghan in 2018 - also appeared on the panel but refused to be pulled into the debate.

"I can't really comment on it because I married them and there's sort of pastoral confidentiality," he said.

"here's always a way forward but it has to be at the right time and as a Christian I live in the belief that forgiveness comes from God and from Jesus Christ and that God, particularly at this time of year, god breaks into the world to open the gate of forgiveness through the Christ child but the way we welcome that opportunity is different for everyone and there has to be a right time."
