Harrison Ashby sends classy West Ham message after Newcastle United deadline day transfer

Harrison Ashby has said he would not be where he is today without West Ham United.

The 21-year-old right-back has completed a deadline day transfer from West Ham, joining Premier League rivals Newcastle United for an undisclosed fee and signing a long-term contract with the Magpies.

Ashby, who was born in Milton Keyes but has represented Scotland at U21 level, has made seven senior competitive appearances for the Hammers across the Premier League and domestic and European cup competitions.

But he has now left for pastures new, with the Magpies moving to seal a deal to sign him on transfer deadline day, which it is understood is worth around £3million, with add-ons.

And Ashby has spoken about the move and what it means to him, while also taking the time to thank West Ham for helping him develop in recent years.

"I could not be happier. I can't get the smile off my face and it's a proud day for me and my family," he said, speaking to Newcastle's club website after the move.

"I'm buzzing to come to the game [Newcastle vs Southampton] tonight, to meet the fans and to get a taste of the atmosphere.

"I wouldn't be here today without West Ham, so I thank all the coaches that I had from growing up to now, but I'm delighted to be here."
