A recent poll conducted by the Pew Research Center has revealed a close competition between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump in the upcoming presidential race. The poll indicates that there is no clear leader nationally, with Harris garnering support from 46% of registered voters, while Trump is close behind at 45%. Additionally, 7% of voters expressed their support for Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
The survey highlights a significant shift from previous polling data, where Trump held a 4-point lead over President Joe Biden. Notably, both Harris and Trump have strong backing from their supporters, with 62% of Harris supporters and 64% of Trump supporters expressing strong support for their respective candidates.
One of the key findings of the poll is that Harris has seen a surge in support, particularly at the expense of Kennedy. The majority of Biden's former supporters have now shifted their allegiance to Harris, while Trump has managed to retain most of his supporters from the previous poll.
Furthermore, Harris has made significant gains among various demographic groups, outperforming Biden in key subgroups. For instance, 49% of female voters now support Harris, compared to 42% backing Trump. Among Black voters, Harris enjoys strong support, with 77% backing her, while only 13% support Trump. Kennedy, on the other hand, has witnessed a decline in support among Black voters.
The poll, which surveyed 7,569 registered voters from August 5 to 11, utilized a nationally representative online panel. The results have a margin of sampling error of +/- 1.4 percentage points, indicating the reliability of the findings.
