A Logan man accused of cutting another man's throat and severing a major artery during a fight has been found guilty of murder.
Harley David Wegener earlier this month pleaded not guilty to the murder of Benjamin Suttie in the Supreme Court in Brisbane.
It took a jury less than half a day to find him guilty.
During a two-week trial, the court heard Mr Suttie was slashed in the neck with a 30-centimetre fishing knife during a "scuffle" with Wegener in a Woodridge park in August 2018.
The 37-year-old suffered major blood loss and multiple organ failure after his carotid artery was severed and died in hospital three days later.
The court heard the two men, who knew each other, had by chance been walking through the park in separate groups before Wegener picked a fight with Mr Suttie.
Wegener admitted he caused the injury but denied intentionally wounding Mr Suttie, instead claiming he was the main aggressor.
He told the jury he "didn't even want to hurt him" and was just trying to push him off and "keep him back" during the fight.
The prosecution argued there were more than a dozen circumstances which proved Wegener had meant to kill him, including targeting his throat with an "extremely sharp" knife and disposing of the weapon while fleeing the scene.
Son 'over the moon' with conviction
Outside court Mr Suttie's son Zac Elder, who had been with his father at the time and tried to save him, said he was "over the moon" with the verdict.
"After four years it's finally happened ... Just happy they've put this bloke away," he said.
Mr Elder said he had since lived his life "all for my dad".
"I stand proud here today and say we did it," he said.
His sister Jody Proctor said she wanted her brother remembered as a "larrikin".
"He was the life of the party," she said.
Wegener was remanded in custody and will be sentenced later this week.
