Happy Valley fans 'queue for hours' to visit café where iconic scene was filmed

Happy Valley fans have been flocking to a particular café to follow in the footsteps of the iconic Catherine Cawood after tense scenes in last week's episode.

Viewers tuning into the BBC One show on Sunday were left on the edge of their seats by a showdown between Sergeant Cawood, played by Sarah Lancashire, and her sister Clare, played by Siobhan Finneran. Catherine was heartbroken after discovering that Clare had been going behind her back to take her grandson Ryan to visit his dad, notorious villain Tommy Lee Royce, in prison.

As the shock twist unfolded, fans hailed it as the "best TV scene in years" and piled praise on Sarah Lancashire's "masterclass" performance, calling for the 58-year-old actress to be awarded a Bafta for the role. And the café where it was all filmed has found itself inundated with customers after they discovered they can get a cuppa at the very same table as Catherine and Clare.

While the scenes are set in Sheffield in the show, the café is actually located in Bolton, Greater Manchester, the Manchester Evening News reports. And manager John Cavanagh said that "business has soared" at the Amico café since the latest episode of Happy Valley aired.

Speaking on ITV's Lorraine, John said: "You don't realise how much of an impact a show can have on somewhere until the aftermath of a show or performance or in this case just a single episode. We've got a lady who comes down from London, she's stayed the week, she's been down three times just to sit at this very table - she will stand and wait until this table is free, just to sit here."

The family-run café has even added a 'Happy Valley sandwich' to the menu in honour of its connection to the show, with Lorraine presenter Jake Quickenden giving the bap a try when he visited. The sarnie is filled with chicken, prosciutto and pesto - but if you're planning a trip to Bolton to tuck into one, you might have to queue for a while with fellow Happy Valley fans.
