Govardhan Puja is a widely celebrated Hindu festival that marks the occasion of Lord Krishna's triumph over Indra, the King of the Devas. It is celebrated on the fourth day of five-day festivities that begin with Dhanteras and ends with Bhai Dooj Tika. This year Govardhan Puja will be observed on 15th of November, which is also the day after Diwali.
According to Hindu scriptures, Govardhan Puja falls on the day when Lord Krishna lifted an entire mountain known as Govardhan parvat with his little finger, in a successful attempt to save his fellow villagers from the wrath of Lord Indra. who had been furious with the villagers and therefore had sent showers of rain over the village for seven continuous days. Thus, by saving the villagers, Lord Krishna had again won his place in the hearts of the people.
