Hannibal Mejbri to return to Manchester United as Tunisia bow out of Africa Cup Of Nations

Hannibal Mejbri becomes the latest Manchester United representative at the Africa Cup of Nations to bow out as Tunisia were beaten by Burkina Faso.

The 18-year-old made just two appearances in this year's competition, managing over an hour of action for the Tunisians but was an unused sub in the quarter-finals.

Dango Ouattara proved to be the match-winner with his brilliant solo goal on the stroke of half-time but his involvement didn't stop there as he was shown a straight red card for an elbow in the dying embers of the clash.

Despite the man advantage, they failed to capitalise and exit the tournament at the last eight stages for the fifth time in their last eight competitions.

Hannibal shone for his country at the Asia Cup as they suffered heartache losing to Algeria in the final in extra-time in 2021.

Unfortunately, he joins Ivory Coast and United teammate Eric Bailly on the plane back to Manchester after the defender missed the crucial penalty in the shootout against Egpyt in the Round of 16.

The 27-year-old, who was passed fit despite suffering a concussion in their second group match against Sierra Leone, kept Premier League top goalscorer, Mohamed Salah, at bay but during the spot-kicks, his effort was matched by the substitute Egyptian goalkeeper.
