A weapon used in a murder will be retested by the state's DNA lab as part of a convicted killer's bid for an appeal after he claimed "fresh evidence" had been discovered.

Andrew John Cobby was found guilty of murdering his estranged wife, Kym Cobby, in the Supreme Court in Brisbane in late 2021.
