Gary Doctor says the appointment of a chief executive for the women’s section at Hamilton Academical is an “exciting” move for the club that will allow them to stay competitive in the Scottish Women’s Premier League.
The Accies Women gaffer is delighted to see the club appoint Michael Sinclair to the role, which will also see him have a place on the overall club board, and says the move was imperative to make sure the Women’s team don’t get left behind
Doctor said: “To develop the women’s side of the club, we need somebody to look after off-field matters and the commercial side of things for us to continue to progress, otherwise we will be left behind because we’ll be standing still.
“We are hoping Michael can develop the relationship with the Hamilton board.
“The big thing is, the women’s game is growing and developing at a fast pace so hopefully Michael’s passion can help take us forward.
“There are a lot of possibilities within the infrastructure at Hamilton.
“Hopefully this will allows us to realise the opportunities we haven’t been able to maximise so far, because there’s been two or three of us doing every role imaginable.
“I’m the manager of the team but I’ve got about five or six other jobs to do and my assistant Robert Watson is very similar.
“There’s been a small group doing a lot of things so Michael coming in is exciting and it should allow us to develop and stay competitive on the pitch, ultimately.”
Accies Women have enjoyed a positive start to their SWPL1 campaign this season, with the club having already matched last season’s points total of nine over the first nine games.
This Sunday eighth-place Accies host fifth place Partick looking to build-up on a recent victory over Spartans and a narrow 1-0 defeat to fourth-place Hearts.
Doctor added: “Thistle have got a really good defensive record and they’ve got good quality there so it will be a hard game, but I think both teams will be looking at it as a good opportunity to get three points.
“We’ve just got to focus on our performance and if we can produce the same performances we had against Spartans and Hearts, we’ve got every chance of getting a result.
“It will come down to the key moments in the boxes and we hope to pick up points with it being a home game for us.”
