Hamilton Accies Women and Girls have appointed Michael Sinclair as their first-ever chief executive.

A statement issued by the club states that Sinclair has a strong background in commercial and business development and that he will "help to grow the club in tandem with the existing Hamilton Academical board".

A statement issued by the club quoted women's chairperson Ian Steele as saying: "We are delighted to welcome Michael Sinclair to Hamilton Academical Women and Girls FC as our new CEO, where he will sit on the Hamilton Academical board of directors.

"This historic move sees the women and girls' teams get our first representation on the club board, which itself shows the commitment Hamilton Academical FC have made to a rapidly expanding women's and girls' game, where the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) has recently acquired the running of the Scottish Women's Premier League (SWPL)."

Michael Sinclair said: "Opportunities require leadership to bring about optimum success and I am therefore delighted to confirm that I have been appointed CEO of Hamilton Academical Women and Girls FC and feel privileged to be able to accept this new role.

"My main objective is to ensure that there is a clear pathway from our community teams and initiatives to our national academy and professional teams, allowing females, regardless of ability, to enjoy the sport and, if they so wish, can make a career as a professional sportswoman.

"My intention is to further develop a close working partnership with the fantastic work undertaken by Hamilton Academical FC, whom over the years have had great Premiership success, have an academy programme regarded as one of the best in Scotland, have community engagement work recognised at Parliamentary level, and their male-inclusive football team established with in the SFA Para-League.

"It is my intention to restructure and successfully develop HAWGFC in the same manner, to ensure strong and robust foundations which lead to success for the women and girls playing for Hamilton Academical."
