Hamilton Accies took a chance on me, I want to repay them, says Steve Lawson

Steve Lawson wants to help Hamilton to become a top team in the Championship and thank them for taking a chance on him.

The 27-year-old Frenchman hadn't played for more than six months after leaving Livingston last August, but was a January signing by Stuart Taylor.

Lawson made his debut 11 minutes into Saturday's 1-0 home win over Morton after Jamie Hamilton was withdrawn with a groin injury, and though it's unfortunate circumstances, he wants to show fans what he can do.

He said: "It's tough to come in like this when someone gets an injury, but I'm happy to have played in this game and finally to have made my debut for Hamilton Accies.

"I want to thank the club, because not every club would give me the chance. I haven't played for more than six months, but Accies gave me the opportunity to play football again.

"I know I'm not at my top level yet, but it will come back soon."

Lawson says Hamilton stopped the form team in the Championship, as Morton's six-game unbeaten run came to a shuddering halt, thanks to Lewis Spence's 46th-minute strike.

The midfielder, who will be deployed at right-back, said it was an important win for Taylor's side.

He said: "I'm really happy to win that game, and it's a good and huge win for us, because it has been a while since we last won a game.

"Now we're back in the winning ways and I hope it will continue like this.

"The gaffer told us that was the best team in the league at this moment, so it was good to beat that team.

"We can show the other teams that we have the level to be a good team as well, and maybe become the top team of the league.

"It's a good three points for us and I hope for our boss to get three more points next week against Inverness."
