Hamilton boss Stuart Taylor says patience was the key to a "thoroughly deserved win" over Morton at New Douglas Park.
Lewis Spence's 46th-minute strike was enough to separate the sides and take Accies back up to sixth in the Championship table.
It was Hamilton's first win in six games, and Morton's first defeat in seven, since Dougie Imrie took over at Cappielow back in December.
Taylor was delighted with the win, particularly because he felt his side had done enough to win recent games that had ended in a draw, citing Arbroath in their last game where they led 2-1 only to concede a last-gasp penalty.
He said: "I'm really happy with the win, happy to get the clean sheet, and happy with how we went about our job.
"The work-rate was brilliant, in possession I thought we did really well against a really well-organised and well-drilled back five, and we were ruthless in front of goal as well.
"In every game we go into we try to get the three points. We thoroughly deserved the win today and it's nice to get the three points.
"It was a very good strike. We spoke about the intensity we needed to play at in the game, and it was difficult.
"Morton came and tried to slow things down and it was important that we kept that intensity up, which we did.
"I think patience was the key today, and that slots will open for us to play through.
"I said to them to keep doing what they were doing but be a bit tidier, and Spenny got his rewards.
"But great work from MacDonald and Kennedy to open up the opportunity for him to go and finish it, but it was a good strike."
Taylor added: "We had been on a really good run, we had gone up to Arbroath who are top of the league and outwith two penalties we kept a clean sheet.
"Going to Raith Rovers we kept a clean sheet against a side who are a very good footballing team, who create chances all over the place.
"It was good to go and get the win today against the team who are the best in the league, in terms of their form.
"We've lost goals from long balls into the box and we lost a goal to Morton in the 97th minute down there, when again we were comfortable in the game.
"Today we dealt with everything that came into the box, it was our players who were winning the headers, picking up second balls.
"When you look at the whole game of how we played, how we did our job, you can see huge improvement about the team, which is the most important thing."
Defender Jamie Hamilton was taken off with a groin injury 11 minutes in, which gave Steve Lawson his debut.
Taylor said: "Jamie's felt a pop in his groin, so it's something that we'll look at over the next couple of days.
"Jamie has been brilliant since I've put him at right-back, he's shown a different side of his game, matured a lot, and he has been huge for us in terms of assists.
"It's disappointing that we've lost him, but really good that Steve has stepped in."
