A senior Hamas official, Basem Naim, has publicly confirmed the death of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar. Naim expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing it as painful and distressing for the group. This confirmation marks the first time a Hamas official has acknowledged Sinwar's killing.
Naim emphasized that despite the loss of Sinwar, Hamas remains resilient and determined to achieve victory. He stated that previous assassinations of Hamas leaders have only served to strengthen the group and increase its popularity among the Palestinian people.
Regarding Israel's actions, Naim criticized the belief that targeting Hamas leaders would bring an end to the movement or the Palestinian struggle. He asserted that such tactics have been employed before by Israel but have not deterred Hamas from its mission.
“Yes, it’s very painful and distressing to lose beloved people, especially an extraordinary leader like Yahia Sinwar, but what we are sure of is that we are eventually victorious; this is the outcome for all people who fought for their liberty,” Naim said.
“It seems that Israel believes that killing our leaders means the end of our movement and the struggle of the Palestinian people … they can believe what they want, and this is not the first time they said that,” he added.
