Israeli authorities have arrested the sister of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh on suspicion of terror-related activities. Sabah Abdel Salam Haniyeh, the sister of the head of Hamas’s political bureau, was taken into custody for allegedly having contact with Hamas operatives and inciting and supporting acts of terrorism in Israel.
The arrest took place early Monday morning at Haniyeh's residence in the Bedouin town of Tel Sheva in southern Israel. The 57-year-old suspect is currently being held for questioning by Israeli police and the ISA (Shin Bet), Israel’s domestic security agency.
According to Israeli authorities, evidence linking Haniyeh to serious security offenses against the State of Israel was discovered during the raid on her home. She is expected to appear before a judge later today for a detention extension hearing.
This development comes amidst ongoing tensions in the region and underscores Israel's commitment to combating terrorism and ensuring national security. The arrest of Haniyeh highlights the complex political dynamics at play in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the challenges faced by security forces in maintaining stability.
Further details regarding the case and the specific allegations against Haniyeh are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses. The arrest of a close relative of a prominent Hamas leader is likely to have broader implications and could impact the already fragile situation in the region.
