'Halo: Campaign Evolved' Has Officially Gone Gold, Says Xbox—What Does This Mean?

Xbox has officially confirmed that "Halo: Campaign Evolved," has already gone gold, securing this milestone with two weeks to spare before its actual release.

'Halo: Campaign Evolved' Officially Gone Gold

The milestone was shared through the official "Halo" account on X, and it puts to rest any lingering concerns about a potential delay, especially given the string of Xbox delays that have affected other titles in recent months.

Going gold is one of the most significant milestones in game development. It means the game has reached a fully complete state and is ready to be manufactured and distributed, marking the point where the core development work is done.

In the case of "Halo: Campaign Evolved," reaching gold status two weeks before launch gives the team at Halo Studios extra time and space to address any remaining bugs or polish issues before players get their hands on it.

Xbox shared the announcement in a celebratory post, signaling confidence in the project. The studio has had more time to dedicate to bug fixing and final touches since the main build was locked in, which bodes well for the overall launch experience.

What Does This Mean For 'Halo: Combat Evolved'?

"Halo: Campaign Evolved" is a full Unreal Engine 5 remake of "Halo: Combat Evolved," the landmark 2001 first-person shooter that launched alongside the original Xbox.

The remake brings the classic campaign up to modern visual standards while also adding new content that was not present in the original.

That includes three brand new prequel story missions called Operation: Meteorite, which take place roughly one year before the events of "Combat Evolved" and center on Master Chief and Sgt. Johnson taking down a Covenant research ship.

These missions are available immediately when players boot up the game for the first time.

The remake also adds optional modifiers that can increase the difficulty and challenge of the original campaign for returning players looking for a fresh experience.

What to Expect From the Upcoming 'Halo' Remake

"Halo: Campaign Evolved" will be available on PS5, PC via Steam, and Xbox Series X/S, making it the first "Halo" game ever to launch on a PlayStation platform.

Players who pre-order the Premium Edition at $69.99 will get early access starting July 23, while Standard Edition buyers and everyone else will be able to play starting July 28.

The Standard Edition also launches as a day-one title on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.

The game supports both online and local co-op at launch, though it will not include PvP multiplayer modes at release. One earlier concern involving co-op on PS5 was also cleared up by Xbox, which confirmed that split-screen co-op will only require a free PlayStation account for the second player, rather than a full PlayStation Plus subscription.

Online co-op, however, will still require PlayStation Plus on PS5 or Xbox Game Pass on Xbox. Cross-progression is supported across all platforms.
