Visitors at the Clontarf Castle Hotel in Dublin have reported hearing strange noises with one guest who visited the hotel in 2010 saying he heard footsteps in his room at night. The man was terrified after his shower turned itself on and his TV flicked channels over at will during his stay, according to the Paranormal Database which was analysed by the experts at Slotbox.
Residents of Cabra have spoken about being stalked by an otherworldly black hound which is said to be the ghost of Lord Norbury, a harsh judge renowned for his overuse of the hangman's noose.
Another sinister spot is Montpelier Hill, which was built in the 1740s on the site of a neolithic passage tomb, where the members of the Irish Hellfire Club would gather there for sessions involving heavy drinking, Satan worship and sexual depravity. Visitors report seeing dancing shadows in and around the former hunting lodge.
Co Cork took the top spot as the Irish county with the highest number of paranormal sightings, with 132 reported incidents overall. From a Leprechaun’s shoe reportedly found in a field in Ardrah to a poltergeist in Cobh heritage centre, there have been some terrifying reported incidents in county Cork.
A spokesperson from Slotbox.com commented on the findings: "Ireland has a lot of spooky history, and with Halloween on the way, it’s incredible to see how many paranormal sightings have been reported."
