The Houston Texans are in a fierce competition against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 7 and have held their own against the AFC’s worst team by record so far. A win this week would get Houston a game closer to the .500 mark and could open the door to a more competitive season as their 2022 schedule wears on.
Buy Texans TicketsThis game hasn’t been the most exciting matchup of the day so far, but for Texans fans, the team’s gritty play is sure to be a breath of fresh air after their disappointing 1-3-1 start to the season.
Here are our takeaways from the first half of this Week 7 matchup:
Davis Mills posts efficient first-half stat line
Mills posted one of his best first-half performances of the season against Las Vegas, completing 11 of 15 passes for 95 yards and a touchdown. He connected with receiver Chris Moore for the team’s first points and managed to keep Houston in the lead at the final whistle of the first half.
With another efficient showing in the second half, Davis could help improve the Texans’ record to 2-3-1 and keep Las Vegas at the bottom of the AFC standings heading into Week 8.
Texans defense held Las Vegas to 10 points
With the exception of a touchdown pass from Derek Carr to Mack Hollins just before the half, the Texans’ defense has played well in Week 7. Before the six-point score, Houston had held the Raiders to just three points and looked to be dominating Las Vegas with relative ease. Their pass rush has kept Carr at bay through two quarters, and if their offense can pick up their pace in the second-half, Houston should be able to eke out a win.
Kicker Ka'imi Fairbairn bounced back after missing his first field goal attempt of the half
Kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn missed his first attempt of the half but bounced back to make his second three-point attempt and the extra point try that followed Davis Mills’ touchdown pass to Chris Moore. While the score is so close at this juncture, Fairbairn’s second-half performance could have a major impact on the outcome of this game.
The lone miss came on a 39-yard attempt that appeared to be a chip shot before sailing wide of the goal post. If he can continue to remain consistent on his attempts that come in the third and fourth quarters, the Texans just might escape this matchup with a win.
