Half-hour of havoc in Delhi: 100kmph storm leaves 2 dead

NEW DELHI: The squall that hit the city at 100kmph and blinding rain on Monday evening wreaked havoc on the green cover with trees falling like matchsticks, some of them crushing passing vehicles. Hoardings and iron and tin sheets at construction sites were flung in the air, only to collapse on the vehicles of unsuspecting commuters with unprecedented fury. To be on road for that half-an-hour of mayhem was to certainly risk one’s life. Two lives were lost in the freak weather event.

A 50-year-old man, Kailash, died when the balcony of the second floor of a house fell on him in the Jama Masjid area while one Bashir Baba was crushed by a tree in the Angoori Bagh area near Red Fort.
