Hairy Biker Dave Myers has given an update on his health after revealing that he had been diagnosed with cancer and was undergoing chemotherapy earlier this year .
The Cumbrian -born star, 64, announced the news on the Agony Uncles podcast back in May, telling listeners that the year would be “a bit of a write off” as he underwent treatment. During the chat with fellow Hairy Biker Si King, Dave reassured fans that his prognosis was “okay” and that he was “going to be fine” as he appealed to fans to respect his and his family’s privacy.
In August , 55-year-old Si gave the audience at Bolton Food and Drink Festival the promising news that Dave was “getting there” with his treatment after he couldn’t make it to the festival. Thanking fans for their messages of support, County Durham star Si added: “He's doing canny, but as you appreciate he's right in the trenches of it all at the minute - but he's getting there, thank God.”

Despite not being able to appear at in-person events, Dave has posted regular updates on the Hairy Bikers’ Instagram page with cooking demonstrations. Earlier this month, the chef took to the page to thank fans for their kind messages from his kitchen at home, saying: “It means so much to me.”
Dave joked that his wife had compared his appearance to “an ostrich chick just born” as his hair began to grow back. And in an appearance on BBC Radio Cumbria on Monday he provided a further update on his health, the Manchester Evening News reports .
“I’m doing alright, I wouldn’t say I was the best I’ve ever been, I’ve had quite a lot of chemotherapy but it’s working,” he shared. “The numbers are going in the right direction, my hair is growing back, my beard is coming back.”
Dave was also full of praise for Si, hailing his co-star as “indispensable” as he explained that his friend had been accompanying him to hospital appointments and cooking him meals to store in his freezer. “The very first week before all the treatment started you have a week of going round hospitals, it was enormous pressure on Lil my partner, but Si was the one who drove me around for a week,” he said.
The Hairy Biker once again shared his gratitude for the “encouraging” messages he had received from well-wishers. “It’s encouraged me that it’s time to stick my head above the parapet a bit,” he added.
