Hackney shooting: Police release image of motorbike used in drive-by as girl, 9, remains fighting for life

Police have released a picture of a stolen motorbike used in a drive-by shooting which left a nine-year-old girl fighting for her life in Hackney.

A gunman shot four diners at Evin Turkish restaurant on Wednesday evening before speeding away on the motorbike down Kingsland High Street in Dalston.

The young girl had been eating inside the restaurant in a group of six including her mother and father and at least one other child when gunfire erupted, the restaurant’s owner has said.

She remains in a critical condition and a man is also facing life-changing injuries, Detective Chief Superintendent James Conway confirmed at a press conference on Friday afternoon.

Det Chief Supt Conway confirmed that a motorbike with a white body, red chassis and red wheels, which was stolen in Wembley in 2021, was used in the attack.

He told reporters: “We know that the offender fired from a motorbike at approximately 9.20pm on Wednesday evening.

“The bike was a Ducati Monster with a white body, red chassis and red wheels. Our officers have now established the motorbike was previously stolen in 2021 from a property in Wembley in London.

“At the time of the shooting, the bike was displaying a registration plate DP21OXY. We are releasing an image of the motorbike today and want to hear from anyone who might recognise it.

“I am particularly keen to hear from you if you saw it on the day of the incident or perhaps you recognise it from being parked up in a driveway or at a specific location. Or do you know someone who has been using the bike at any point over the last three years.”

Two men aged 44 and 42 remain in hospital in a stable condition but one is facing life-changing injuries. A third man aged 37 has been discharged from hospital.

Forensics were seen searching outside the restaurant, where a crime scene remains in place, on Friday as well as at St Mark Church around 300 metres away from where the shooting happened on Thursday.

No arrests have been made and specialist family liaison officers continue to support the family.

A witness who was metres away when the attack happened told the Standard they saw a gunman "on a black motorbike in all black, face not visible, and shot what I remember to be five to six gunshots into the restaurant next door".

Det Chief Supt Conway added: “This shocking attack will have had an element of preplanning.

“This means there are people out there who know something that may be crucial to our investigation. Gun crime has no place on the streets of London and this wreckless act has left a young child fighting for her life.”

He added: “We are specifically reaching out to our Turdish and Kurkish communities, particularly in north and east London, who I know are shocked and appalled by this crime. This is because the three men who were shot have connections to those communities.”
