Hackensack Meridian Health and Hunterdon Health signed a definitive agreement on Oct. 20 for Hunterdon Health and its flagship Hunterdon Medical Center to join the Hackensack Meridian network. The deal includes $230 million in pledged investments, but it still needs state and federal regulatory review before it can close. Until then, the two systems will keep operating independently.
For patients in Hunterdon County and nearby parts of Somerset, Mercer and Warren counties, nothing changes yet. The two systems say patients should keep getting care from their current providers and locations until the deal closes. The bigger questions concern what may change afterward, including insurance networks, patient portals, and where some services are offered.
