A Texas processor has recalled 18 refrigerated products sold under the H-E-B and NatureBest brands because they were made with jalapeño peppers tied to a national Salmonella outbreak. The affected items reached retail customers in Texas and Louisiana between July 3 and August 5. The company announced the recall on August 8, and the Food and Drug Administration posted it on Friday.
The date range is the part that matters for a household. Some of these products carry use-by dates running through August 15, which means the federal notice went up while items were still inside their own date on somebody's shelf. Anyone who shopped at an H-E-B in either state during that five-week window has a reason to open the refrigerator door.
