Gwen Stefani in tears as she tells The One Show host 'you don’t understand'

Gwen Stefani was left feeling a bit emotional when she appeared on The One Show on Monday night. The singer, 53, was on the BBC programme to talk about her upcoming UK gigs - which will be the first time she's performed in the UK for an astounding 16 years.

But an incident which unfolded almost changed the course of the interview as she spoke to Jermaine Jenas and Alex Jones on the famous red sofa. Co-host Jermaine Jenas was given a talking to and left looking a wee bit embarrassed as the No Doubt icon broke down in tears.

And it all started when Alex revealed they had a message for the star from one of her idols, Pauline Black, by saying: "We have a surprise, we rang Pauline Black and she wanted to send you this message." There was then footage of Ska band Selecter lead singer Pauline thanking Gwen for supporting her over the years.

Gwen replied: "I could cry, zoom in guys this is real tears, wow I’m shaking. "I can’t believe that, that is incredible." And Jermaine said: "I can understand why."

Quick-witted Gwen then waved her finger at him and had a go, but it was all done in jest as she said: "No, you don’t understand anything!"As the studio erupted into laughter, Alex then chimed in: "You tell him Gwen!" And Gwen warmed all our hearts by replying: "She was my idol when I was 13."

Black was a founding member of 2 Tone ska band The Selecter who were formed in Coventry in 1979 and Stefani has widely credited her for being a huge influence on her own performance style.

Viewers who were watching were over the moon at the appearance of Gwen and lots were blown away by her age.

Lee Zap said: "You age like a fine wine, gorgeous woman

One fan added: "Gwen Stefani looks fantastic what's her secret to looking and sounding good." and a third added: "Gwen Stefani on the one show is just weird. How has she not aged?! No way is she 53."
