Newcastle United have had a bid accepted by Brighton & Hove Albion for defender Dan Burn.
The Magpies have agreed a fee in the region of £13 million for the 6ft 7 centre-back after their two previous offers were rejected.
Eddie Howe has been keen on adding to his central defensive options throughout the window and after unsuccessful pursuits of Sven Botman and Diego Carlos, it appears Burn is the man they’ll get.
As reported yesterday on Chronicle Live, Newcastle, who are now back in the UK after their trip to Saudi Arabia, have spent the weekend negotiating with Albion for the Geordie defender's signature.
But Newcastle are not set to stop there and plan moves for at least another player on deadline day.
Here is how Brighton fans have been reacting to the news.
@AJ_BHAFC: “£13mil? No brainer. Shame to see BDB go but Uncle Tony’s played a blinder there.”
@Brighton_Peer: “Thank you Big Dan Burn. Your rise from bit part player to important centre back was incredible for the Albion. Such a talent. Good luck at the team you’ve supported since a lad. You will be fondly remembered and missed.”
@BhaCallum: “2 years ago I never thought I’d be gutted to see Dan Burn leaving our club, but I really am, he’s been so good for us, but £13m is too much to turn down for a 30-year-old rotation option. Thank you so much for everything Dan, now go and smash it at your boyhood club.”
@Suspendedgoose: “Burn going to Newcastle, 13 million good returns has played well lately but does have a mistake in him. If he stays all well and good, if he goes good luck.”
@Anthony_1990_: “Best of luck BDB. A player who has far exceeded expectations since he has been here. Deserves a big money move. That being said, 13m is brilliant business by the Albion, with replacements already in place. And if there’s one thing this club can do, it’s find and produce CBs.”
@KerrenGarner: “Aw, sad to see BDB is off. Best of luck to him, he will be missed.”
@djdexter_: “Dan Burn – done an absolute job in this Brighton team! Wish you every success moving forward at Newcastle.”
@Brightonfan: “My heart sunk when the news broke that BDB is leaving, that goal against Man City at home back in April last year, will live with me forever.”
