A POPULAR bar and diner is to close for good after nearly 20 years of serving the community in South Lanarkshire.
The Exchange Bar, in East Kilbride, announced to customers that it would be calling last orders on Sunday, September 1 after 17 years in the town.
In a post on Facebook bosses at the eatery say they were "forced" to make this "difficult" decision.
It reads: "With sadness, we announce the closing of our business. After 17 years of operating as The Exchange Bar & Diner and over 30 years of operating as a local independent in East Kilbride Town Centre, we are forced to make this difficult decision to call last orders.
"Our last day of trading will be tomorrow, Sunday, September 1, 2024."
Bosses went on to thank staff at the venue for their dedication over the years and thanked customers for their support.
They added: "We would like to take this opportunity to thank our staff for their tireless efforts and work.
"Many have been with us for most if not all of our journey. We are grateful for their loyalty and commitment to the company and our customers.
"We could not have achieved the successes that we did without their hard work and dedication.
"We would also like to express our appreciation to our loyal customers for their trust and support over the years."
Customers shared their shock at the announcement in the comments.
One person said: "I'm so sad to read this. Gutted for all of you and want to thank you for the amazing memories we have from over the years.
"All the best."
A second wrote: "So sorry to hear this. I've had so many happy times in The Exchange. The staff are so welcoming and I'll miss my weekend karaoke so much."
A third added: "Sorry to hear this. Definitely going to be missed by so many people. Management and staff all did an amazing job.
"A big loss for the town centre."
