Gurugram: Father among four arrested for attack on woman

GURUGRAM: Four people, including the father and the brother of a Muslim woman, were arrested for allegedly assaulting and threatening to kill her if she did not separate from her live-in partner, a Hindu. The arrests were made following an FIR on a complaint from the woman, police said.

In her complaint, the 19-year-old woman accused her father and brother of assaulting, confining, and forcing her to marry a man of their choice without her consent.

“My father and brother beat me up mercilessly with an iron rod fracturing my leg, and illegally detained me and forced me to marry a man of their choice. My family has threatened that if I stay with my boyfriend, they would kill both of us.”

The woman also told the cops that she had been persuading her parents to accept the relationship. “But they refused. A year ago, I met the man at a gift shop after which we started seeing each other,” said the woman, who claimed to have escaped from the clutches of her parents.

The FIR against the four, including the woman’s father, her brother, and their two relatives, were lodged at Palam Vihar police station under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (common intention) of IPC. “We arrested the four people on July 13, but now they are out on bail,” said a police official.
