GURUGRAM: Mayor Madhu Azad and MLA Sudhir Singla inaugurated a material recovery facility (MRF) at Beriwala Bagh on Thursday. The MRF can process 150 tonnes of waste every day. Ecogreen, the civic body's solid waste management concessionaire, is also working on creating more MRFs in the city to encourage decentralised waste processing and reduce the burden on the landfill site in Bandhwari. “With the addition of a new MRF along with the existing one at Badshahpur, the city’s municipal waste management will be streamlined,” said Azad.
The new MRF has 18 pits spread over 1,800sq feet area to compost the wet waste. Each pit has a depth of 3.5feet. The facility will also cater to the bulk waste generators (BWGs) of zone 1, which don’t have composting plants.
“The project aims to reduce the waste that is sent to Bandhwari landfill daily and promote recycling. This MRF will segregate 150 tonnes of waste per day, ensuring only inert is sent to the landfill. We are in the process of creating more MRFs, which will provide a more sustainable solution for the solid waste management of the city,” said PSN Reddy, COO, Ecogreen.
MCG has allocated land for the facility in Sector 44, Nirvana Country, Basai, Balola, Ullawas and Choma besides the two MRFs operating in Badshahpur and Beriwala Bagh.
