Gunman opens fire in Salford street as window blasted

Police are appealing for witnesses after a gunman fired through the window of a house in Salford in the early hours of New Year's Day (January 1). The incident happened on Rye Croft Avenue, near to Salford Royal Hospital, at around 00.50am, police say.

The gunman shot through the front ground floor window of a house, but no injuries have been reported. No arrests have been made.

An investigation is ongoing and police are now appealing for witnesses, including CCTV footage, to help with their enquiries. A GMP spokesman said: "At around 00:50am on New Year’s Day (Sunday 1 January 2023), officers responded to a report of a disturbance on Rye Croft Avenue.

"After an initial investigation it has transpired to be a firearms discharge through the front ground floor window of a property. No injuries were reported at the time and after initial enquiries no arrests have been made.

"Detectives are now in a position to appeal for witnesses and gain any further information that may help with their investigation, including doorbell footage."
