RAJKOT: There seems to be a huge resentment among ship-breakers at Alang in Bhavnagar district after a factory owner and a safety manager were booked under IPC section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) by Alang marine police station following the death of labourer in an accident last week. The safety managers at Alang are now reluctant to work.
The ship-breakers in their representations to senior police officers and the chief minister have alleged that the police had lodged the offence without conducting a proper investigation. Their association also represented to the Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB) for giving a closure notice to the unit “in violation the code”.
