Guillaume Pousaz
A university drop-out who left his studies to go surfing and has a long-standing interest in street art, Dubai-based Guillaume Pousaz is a Swiss billionaire with an unusual back story.
Having studied mathematical engineering, he was drawn into finance by the lure of numbers, at least to a Californian fintech company with offices near the beach.
He went on to launchis own payments firm in 2007, NetMerchant, which bought SMS Payments in 2009 and he set up Opus Payments, which focused on Asia, in 2009. He blended this experience into Checkout.com to make fintech easier to use. Its straightforwardness left it well-placed for the rise in demand during the pandemic.
