Guilford County Confirms 14th Animal Rabies Case of 2026 in Jamestown Raccoon as Gwinnett Bat Also Tests Positive

A raccoon found on Kearn Street in Jamestown, North Carolina, tested positive for rabies on Oct. 8, making it Guilford County's 14th confirmed animal rabies case of 2026. The Guilford County Department of Public Health did not report any contact between the raccoon and people or pets.

The same day, officials in metro Atlanta reported that a bat found dead in a backyard near the 700 block of Autumn Meadow Drive in Loganville tested positive for rabies. The bat was found Oct. 6, according to a Gwinnett County news release. No exposures were reported there either.
