A HOTEL in Perth was evacuated on Thursday morning after a fire broke out.
Three fire engines from Perth station were dispatched to the Royal George Hotel on Tay Street shortly after 8am.
Around 20 or 30 guests were evacuated onto the street for a short time before being allowed to return.
It is believed that the fire broke out in the laundry.
One guest, John Littlechild from California, told The Courier: “Smoke alarms went off at around 8 o’clock.
“Everyone came out and the fire service came out. We didn’t smell any smoke. Trust me we’d have got out quicker if we’d smelled smoke.”
This comes after three people were killed in a fire at the New County Hotel at the beginning of January.
A spokesperson for Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We received an alert at 8.10am from the hotel of a small fire within the laundry area at the Royal George Hotel in Tay Street.
“The fire was extinguished by staff using water and fire crews remain the scene carrying out further safety checks.
“No one was injured in the incident.”
George Street has been closed off to traffic as fire and ambulance crews remain at the scene.
