Gucci x Adidas: A retro sportswear collaboration to level up your summer look

News of Gucci joining forces with the sportswear giant Adidas broke on the runway, during Milan Fashion Week in February this year.

Appearing on the illuminated catwalk, with Rihanna and A$AP Rocky watching on, came a first look at what was an unexpected meeting of minds.

Traditional, luxury tailoring, satin frocks and corsets were offset by an influx of sportswear tropes. Adidias’s trademark Trefoil stripes ran down suit jackets, plaid coats and latex dresses. Caps came emblazoned with Adidas’ three pronged logo, as did full length Victoriana style velvet dresses and knitted tracksuits.

Now, the countdown begins for when the first Gucci x Adidas pieces – the ultimate high low fashion collaboration – are on sale. Today marks the first look at the joint campaign, picturing the debut line of collaborative items available to the public on June 7. (For the runway pieces, you will have to wait until September).

There is plenty to fall in love with in this drop, however. The campaign is committed to all things retro sportswear and in Gucci’s creative director, Alessandro Michele’s, typical style that means effortless and appealing nostalgia.

Against pop colour backdrops, key items include a graphic red and blue print combining the Adidas logo and Gucci’s interlocking G’s, used for smart, belted jackets, bucket hats and bowling bags.

Tracksuits are a focus and come in Adidas’s typical polyester, but with the red and green Web of Gucci stripe down the side. A new mini GG and Adidas logo print is diagonally splashed across another co-ord sports kit, while a yellow and cream colourway comes on bowling shirts and shorts.

Tennis-inspired polo’s, sweater vests and skirts offer a sophisticated edge to the unisex collection, as well full length, pleated skirts which come in lilac and red. On the footwear front, the classic Adidas Gazelle trainer comes Guccified, while leather heels bear the combined logos too.

Prices startat £125 and go up to £13,000, so whether you are after the whole look, or after a smaller piece to give your summer look some zhuzh, it is well worth a gander to see if something’s for you.
