During a simulated game on Sunday, Cleveland Guardians' utilityman Tyler Freeman suffered an oblique injury, leading to his removal from the AL Division Series roster ahead of Game 2 against the Detroit Tigers on Monday.

Replacing Freeman is rookie Ángel Martínez, known for his versatility across multiple positions. Martínez, who appeared in 43 games during the regular season, was initially left off the playoff roster but has now been called upon to step in.

Manager Stephen Vogt disclosed that Freeman strained his left oblique during an at-bat in practice. Vogt expressed empathy for Freeman, acknowledging his significant contributions to the team's success throughout the season.

Freeman's absence is notable as he had a strong performance against the Tigers this season, boasting a .385 batting average with three RBIs in 12 games. He also had success against Tigers' ace Tarik Skubal, going 3 for 6 against him.

In other news, Vogt confirmed that Alex Cobb will take the mound for Game 3 in Detroit on Wednesday. Cobb, who dealt with a blister on his right middle finger towards the end of the regular season, was acquired via trade from San Francisco in July.

Despite the setback with Freeman's injury, the Guardians remain focused on their postseason campaign as they navigate through the AL Division Series against the Tigers.
