GTA 6 Online looks unlikely for launch as Rockstar refers to the game as a "single-player experience"

GTA 6 Vintage Vice City pack.

Rockstar Games is still keeping details about GTA 6's online mode under wraps, with the latest news seemingly confirming it will arrive after launch.

Ahead of GTA 6 pre-orders going live tomorrow, Rockstar has released a blowout of info about the upcoming open-world game. Most notably, the GTA 6 price, which has finally been confirmed to be in line with the Nintendo-led $80, with an Ultimate Edition arriving alongside it for $100, with pre-loads starting a week early. On top of that, Rockstar confirmed the rough news that GTA 6 physical copies are a code in a box, but very quietly hidden away in a press release is an unfortunate clue about GTA Online's next iteration.

In a Take-Two press release where the price was confirmed, it reads, "Grand Theft Auto 6 features a single-player experience set in the biggest, most immersive evolution of the series yet." The keywords there are "single-player," effectively confirming that when GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026, a new version of GTA Online will not be coming alongside it.

We know a new GTA Online is on the way, thanks to court proceedings earlier this year, and given how much money GTA Online makes, and how much GTA 6 is going to make, it was pretty inevitable that it would be a thing in the upcoming game.

However, this isn't out of the ordinary for Rockstar anymore. It may be hard to remember now that it was 13 years ago, but GTA 5's iteration of GTA Online launched two weeks after the game's release. Whereas Red Dead Redemption 2's online component launched in beta around a month later, then fully launched around a year and a half later.

The UK government has reportedly been paying employees to play GTA Online with random people to understand their "lived experience".
