'GTA 6' Officially Confirms New Advanced Weather System Based on Real-Life Florida

Rockstar Games has confirmed a new detail about "Grand Theft Auto VI" that ties directly into how closely the game mirrors its real-world inspiration.

Game Informer secured an exclusive cover story on the highly anticipated sequel, speaking with several lead designers at Rockstar to learn how the studio built out Leonida, its fictional take on Florida.

'GTA VI' Officially Confirms Advanced Weather System

Game Informer's cover story confirmed that "GTA VI" will feature an advanced weather system built to simulate the kind of weather Florida is actually known for, beyond just sunshine. Senior associate editor Marcus Stewart, who wrote the piece and grew up in South Florida, said the story covers details that have never been shared before, including how the weather system was designed to reflect the region's less sunny phenomena.

The story also touches on the sheer amount of wildlife found throughout Leonida, covering creatures native to the area as well as those that were introduced from elsewhere, spread across land, air, and sea.

Stewart noted that Rockstar took its research into Miami and Florida seriously, aiming to make the game's world as culturally and aesthetically accurate as possible.

'GTA VI' to Emulate Real-World Florida Weather

Florida is well known for its unpredictable and often dramatic weather patterns, including frequent thunderstorms, tropical humidity, and hurricane season, all of which shape daily life in the region in ways that go beyond simple rain effects.

According to GameRant, Rockstar appears to be leaning into that reality directly with "GTA VI," rather than settling for a generic weather system layered on top of the map.

Stewart's framing of the feature suggests Rockstar wants players who are familiar with Florida to recognize its weather immediately, while also giving the wider audience unfamiliar with the state a more grounded, lived-in sense of place.

Combined with the wildlife details and the cultural research Rockstar reportedly put into the game, the weather system appears to be one more piece of a broader effort to make Leonida feel authentic rather than like a loose interpretation of the Sunshine State.

What to Expect From Game Informer's Story

The full cover story runs 14 pages and includes exclusive interview quotes from Rockstar's lead designers, along with 12 new screenshots showing more of the game's world and its people. The magazine cover itself features original artwork provided by Rockstar, showing protagonists Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos.

Beyond the "GTA VI" coverage, the same issue includes previews from Gamescom, an interview with "Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons" voice actor Maggie Robertson, hands-on impressions of "Persona 4 Revival," and a look at "Tides of Annihilation" following a trip to China.

The issue also includes a feature on what makes a good bad game, along with an interview with actor and musician Finn Wolfhard about his favorite Pokémon games and video game soundtracks.

The digital version of the issue becomes available on September 29, with the print edition reaching subscribers and newsstands in the following weeks. Game Informer noted the "GTA VI" issue will only be available for a limited time through its print subscription.

"GTA VI" remains on track for its November 19 release across PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
