Empty Grand Theft Auto 6 retail cases have reportedly begun appearing on display in UK shops, according to social media posts, less than two months before the game's 19 November launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Fans have shared photographs appearing to show GTA 6 display cases and posters at retailers including Currys and Smyths Toys. The images show what have been described as dummy display cases, but the photographs themselves have not been independently verified.
The cases feature artwork of lead characters Jason and Lucia alongside other promotional information associated with the game. The material appears consistent with previously released GTA 6 artwork, although Rockstar Games has not separately confirmed the specific retail displays.
Pre-Orders, Pricing and Disc-Free Physical Editions
Rockstar has already opened pre-orders for GTA 6, with Standard and Ultimate editions available digitally and the physical Standard Edition available through selected retailers. Digital pre-order customers can begin pre-loading the game on 12 November, a week ahead of launch.
The physical version will not include a disc. Instead, the physical Standard Edition will contain a code redeemable for the full digital download. Physical copies are expected to become available for shipping and collection from retailers from 12 November to support pre-loading.
Vice City Promotions Step up in the Real World
The retail sightings follow a string of other promotional developments. A large 'Welcome to Vice City' sign was installed on 22 September on the roof of the Kaseya Center in Miami, home to the NBA's Miami Heat. The installation is a real-world reference to Vice City, the fictional setting inspired by Miami featured in the game.
Rockstar has also begun promoting Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, announced on 17 September. The official soundtrack contains 34 original tracks, with six singles already available on major streaming platforms. It is available for digital pre-save, while physical vinyl and CD editions are available to pre-order.
Separately, Rockstar has published updated modding guidelines covering issues including storylines, missions, characters, third-party intellectual property, multiplayer modifications and monetisation. The guidelines apply broadly to Rockstar's games and services rather than specifically to GTA 6, although their timing has prompted discussion about their potential implications for future GTA 6 modding.
PC Version Speculation Rolls On
A PC edition of GTA 6 has not been officially announced. Speculation about a future PC version has continued following comments from Take-Two chief executive Strauss Zelnick during the company's annual shareholders' meeting, in which he said the PC platform was 'becoming more and more important' to the company's broader strategy. Zelnick did not announce a PC version of GTA 6 or provide a release date.
Some discussion within the PC gaming community has linked Rockstar's updated modding guidelines to questions about a possible future PC release, but Rockstar has not said the guidelines are connected to any such plans.
