The Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council is set to consider a sweeping package of reforms on Thursday that could remove the power of tax officers to make arrests, unblock input tax credit (ITC) on several business expenses, and speed up refunds and registration.
The 57th meeting of the Council, chaired by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, begins at 11 am at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, according to an office memorandum of the GST Council Secretariat.
