Group accused of leaving pub without paying €250 bill finally pay up and add a tip

A group accused of leaving a pub without paying their €250 bill have now allegedly paid in full and even added a tip.

Earlier this week it was claimed that two couples, along with a baby and toddler, enjoyed a three course Father's Day Sunday Roast and cocktails.

The table of six indulged in a three-course dinner, drinks and food for the children, with the bill totalling £215 (€250).

They then allegedly left The Fisherman's Arms in Newlyn, a seaside town and fishing port in Cornwall, without paying, sparking widespread outrage.

Initially, the pub took to social media to share CCTV images of the group of diners, who could be seen sitting outdoors with a young child.

The business claimed that the group walked out without settling their bill as they went out for a cigarette before reportedly doing a runner.

But last night, the pub confirmed on Twitter that they were contacted and the bill was paid in full.

They wrote: "We wish to inform you that the individuals concerned regarding The Fathers Day incident have now contacted the pub and paid the bill in full, in fact they’ve overpaid as a gesture of goodwill. The matter is now closed!!"

Speaking to Mirror UK, pub manager Lucy said that after their meal one of the men approached the bar and enquired how much their bill was.

She said: "One of them came up to the bar, had a look at the bill and said the women were in the toilet. He said they were going out for a cigarette and would come back to settle up, but they left. The women weren't in the toilet, they had already left.

"They are not from round here, you want to trust people, but this wasn't an accidental walk off. You can see one of the men shushing the other as they walk away on the CCTV."

Lucy said this was the first time the restaurant, which had only been open seven months, had been left short.

She then told the Daily Mail: "I have worked in the industry 14 years and this is the first time it’s happened to me, we have had people accidentally not pay and they always ring back and make it right."
