Gregory's Girl star heads back to Lanarkshire town for BBC's The One Show

Celebrity Clare Grogan recently visited Cumbernauld to film a TV segment about plans to redevelop the town centre.

The Altered Images singer and actress, whose most famous link to the town is her role in the classic film Gregory’s Girl, filmed a piece for this Friday’s episode of the BBC’s The One Show.

The piece discusses North Lanarkshire Council’s plans to raze the controversial town centre and build a new community hub.

However, efforts have been made by one community member to have the structure registered as 'listed'.

During her piece, she interviewed local representative Councillor Adam Smith who spoke about the council’s future plans and the history of Cumbernauld.

It was designated a New Town in 1955 as part of a government programme which began after the Second World War as an “overspill” area, allowing people to move out of cramped conditions and deprivation in Glasgow.

The episode will be aired on BBC One at 7pm and will subsequently be available on the iPlayer streaming service.
